This large-scale multi use development will be a smart grid system which will provide independent grid power to a number of residential complexes, hotels and business in the area. Phase 3,4 and 5 will take the project size up to 6 MW GSE will utilize its own power grid to remove Eskom dependency entirely.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

This large-scale oil refinery required a solution to mitigate against escalating municipal electricity costs year on year as well as loadshedding which had halted production. GSE provide a Combined Heat and Power(CHP), Solar Gas Hybrid with a waste heat recovery system which has significantly reduced costs by using engine exhaust gases directly for drying, and heating boilers to generate steam.

This commercial property was being billed high electricity tariffs and the owners were looking at a means to reduce operational expenditure on electricity and safeguard against future tariff increases. Additionally, power outages were resulting in excessive generator run time and fuel usage. The GSE solution addressed and mitigated both these issues.

The shopping mall has a constant load profile of approximately 700kW during daytime hours. The installed solar system supplements the base load at peak up to 500kW equating to approximately 70% peak supplementation. The solar PV system is expected to generate on average between 2.7MWh and 3.9MWh per day depending on the season producing a significant saving to the customer.

This facility is located 3km outside of Prieska in the Northern Cape. It was completed in September 2020, it is connected to the Eskom grid and ready to wheel power to anywhere in the country. The Prieska Solar farm is designed to be modular and expanded should there be a need for additional generation demand. Sufficient land is available with the capability of expansion to 10 MW or higher depending on required demand. The project was developed in conjunction with the Siyathemba Municipality and Greenstone Energy has focused on using local service providers for the operation and maintenance of the plant to maximise the positive effect of the plant on the local economy.
